Cim d'Àligues Educational Programme:
The activities organised for schools are planned to fit the Environmental Education school program. Our objective is to promote the children’s awareness towards the protection and preservation of birds of prey and their habitats.
Information and knowledge are the main tools to achieve respectful attitudes towards the natural environment.
Some of the aspects discussed in the activities performed in our centre include the different species’ biological characteristics and behaviour, as well as the role that each species plays in the ecosystem, and the many facts that endanger their development.
Our instructors conduct the activities, each of them in charge of a group of approximately 20/25 children.
As an introduction the first activity is a forest walk, where the children learn some general aspects regarding flora, fauna, the food chain, and the different bird species in the forest. As the physical differences amongst the birds are also discussed, which allows us to better locate the group that is our objective for study.
After the walk, the children visit the cages, where the instructors point out and explain the main characteristics of birds of prey and of each particular species shown. About 25 different species of birds of prey can

be closely watched, amongst others long-eared owls, barn owls, hawks, eagles, kestrels and kites.
After these introductions to the species, we go to the amphitheatre where the flight sessions take place. It is now that we see the free-flight of the birds that best represent each type of bird of prey. That is, the kestrel and the hawk, the vulture, the long-eared owl, the eagle, the buzzard... This allows the children to compare the differences existing between the different species, mainly regarding flight and alimentary habits.
The above mentioned activities are performed in the morning or in the afternoons. For those groups that want to spend the whole day at Cim d’Àligues, the activities are performed during the morning and, after lunch, there are games and contests regarding the world of birds of prey so tha
t the children may better remember and learn the concepts while they play.
The workbooks are the complement to the information explained by our instructors.
From Tuesday to Friday.
